Jampaling Temple

The Jampaling Temple lies in Chamdo, the juncture of the Lancang River and Zachu River. Its topography looks like steps, which seems solemn. It is said that when Master Tsongkapa returned to Tibet from the Central Plains by way of Chamdo, he had predicted that Chamdo would be a wonderful place to build temples and promote Buddhism. Later, Sherab Sangpo, a Lama of Gelugpa Sect from Kham, was appointed to promote Buddhism in Kham by Gyatsoje, a disciple of Tsongkapa. And finally he built a temple on the fourth step of Chamdo in 1437. Since the major worshipping Buddha is the Future Buddha (the Jampa Buddha), the name of the temple originated from that, and it is also called as "Chamdo Temkple". The Jampaling Temple is the one that was built earliest, with the largest scope among all the Gelugpa temples in Kham.
