Rich village in suburban Beijing has become a tourism attraction, receiving 100,000 visitors a year, including some 3,000 visitors from overseas.
The Village, Hancunhe Village in Fangshan District in Beijing is regarded as the richest village in the Beijing area, with all its 791 households living in villas and luxury apartment buildings. "With convenient traffic and comfortable living conditions, people like to enjoy the rural life and fresh air" said a local farmer Zhang.
"Instead of hotels, many visitors stay with us just like a family member, eating and working together with us," Zhang said. The village used to be very poor, but like many other Chinese villages, Hancunhe became rich after the Open Door Policy was introduced in 1978.
"It looks like a fairy tale world -- quiet, clean, and beautiful, that is why I came here for my holiday," said Wang Yu, a visitor from Beijing. "I think Hancunhe is a model for other Chinese villages," he said.
